Thinking Cap
A Series Rethinking Modern Living & Society
by Consumers' Association of Penang
A school is expected to provide instructions, qualifications and diplomas - in reality, the years at school produce a striking number of failures.
Those who fail in school may be good in many other areas.
But once labelled as a failure by the school system most of them live with inferiority complex throughout their lives.
Most of the children drop out of school.
Schooling acts as a filter through which mostly children of the elive advance.
Out of every 100 children in India:
:: 40-50 do not enrol in schools at all.
:: 50-60 enter primary schools. Out of these, about 30-40 soon drop out.
:: 20-25 enter middle school. Of these, a further 10-15 drop out.
:: 5-10 enter higher secondary schools. Out of these a further 4-6 drop out.
:: Only 1-2 children eventually enter college.
